You know that feeling you get when you pick up an old photo from your past and look at it... really LOOK at it, feeling yourself instantly transported back to that exact moment in time? How all the memories come flooding back, and your lips curve upward into a nostalgic little smile?

THIS is what I strive to capture.

Those precious little memories, caught forever in an image which helps you recall the little details of the moment that otherwise might be forgotten.  I want to capture the real you… your real smiles and facial expressions, the way you hold yourself, little gestures that are yours and yours alone.

I want to capture the YOU that posed pictures tend to hide away.

I find this especially important when capturing images of children.  They grow and change so fast that it’s nice to have a reminder of how they were at this moment in time. Not with the plastic, forced smile that all kids seem to acquire around the age of 3… but the natural one that melts your heart every time you see it. I want to capture all the little quirks that you just might miss when they get older… their little pouts and quirky facial expressions, standing on their tippie-toes, even just remembering how small they actually were once-upon-a-time.

Real Life. Beautifully Captured.

So, what’s with the name “the Suitcase Studio?”  Simply stated, I bring the studio to you…  I love to work in natural light whenever possible.  When natural light isn’t quite enough (like when working indoors), I bring along my handy-dandy travel studio lights and even a portable backdrop, when called for.

My philosophy is simple:  Capture the moments as they happen; capture the beauty that those simple moments possess.

What this means:  Rather than spend the time on particular poses, I keep things as natural as possible.  I completely understand how strange it feels to have a camera pointed at you (which is why you usually find me behind the lens and not in front of one, thank-you-very-much), and will try to make it as relaxing as I can.  I will usually just follow you around as much as possible (paparazzi-style) and simply let the events unfold, capturing real-life as we go along.  I might place you in particular areas so we can use them for backgrounds, but will try my best to avoid posing you.  Life happens in-between the poses, and that’s when the best shots are usually captured.

I promise that no matter whether you are normally a friend or foe of the camera, you will have FUN! (cross my heart.)
